With the change of the seasons, from summer to autumn, my head starts to explode with new creative ideas! I want to make all the things and try all the stuff I haven't made yet! Even though I may not know how or what I'm making.
Turning "vague notion" into concept drawings...
My frugal self cautions my creative self to use parts of my stash rather than buy more items when I have no space to store any of the leftovers. So I started looking through the cupboards to see what I had on hand.
I really didn't have a clue how I was going to put anything together... one of those "vague notion" projects I get now and then.
Decisions... write with paint or markers...
With the September Equinox this week, I wanted to make something to greet the shorter days of fall and keep my spirits up. So I decided to make "Hello Fall" and "tis the season to be fall-y" hang-up things. I figured I could give them to family and friends and colleagues. I just wanted to make something different.
I started gathering supplies...
Ok... so I had to buy some little wooden cutouts... I already had the hot glue gun and hemp twine I used ... I gathered some brightly colored leaves and let them dry (they sure do crumble easily...).
Adding a bit of highlight...
All right... I bought the fabric leaves. That's ok, I'll find some use for them. And I gathered some grass seed heads as decoration. That's ok, I can throw out what I don't use.
I went to the thrift store to get ideas... yeah... I bought the wheat stalks... no worries, I can use them for other fall stuff.
And I already had bits of ribbon and acrylic paints and permanent markers.
I found a big container of wheat at the thrift store for pennies...
So I spent a couple of days assembling eight little hang-up things. They're not perfect nor incredibly impressive... and they're not bad for a "vague notion" craft I put together out of nothing much. They're cute. Good enough to give to folks. Fun enough to get a smile.
Making the hangers satisfied my need to stretch my "I can make this" comfort zone.
The first four I made...
I do have to find storage for just a *couple* more small craft items... and I used some paint and glue from my stash.
