Every year my regional SCA group, the Kingdom of Calontir, hosts a large Kris Kinder Market. A jolly time for holiday shopping, meeting new and old friends, a bit of farbling and twattling, eating at the inn... all with a creative Medieval flare.
Now then, I'm not a huge shopper. And this is primarily a shopping event. Don't misunderstand, I love the other parts of the event... yet... I tend to finish the shopping part early, then just hang around.
Last year at the Kris Kinder event... what great fun!
So last year I decided to ask a friend if I could share her table and try my hand at selling my weaving.
My reasoning, you see, was that I could visit everyone, hang out in the thick of things, fill my creative bucket, and have something to do all day while having a marvelous time.
So I made a bunch of woven ornaments and bookmarks to bring to the event as well as bringing some Infinite Options Storytelling Prompts for my gamer and teacher friends.
My thought proved correct! I did have a great time and covered my expenses while earning a bit of folding money.
So this year, as the event approached, I thought to do the same. I expanded my inventory a bit with belts and wreathes and lanyards and garters all woven by my own hand on my own little loom.
Some of the wreath ornaments...
As you know, I do enjoy weaving narrow wares, especially in the evenings as I wind down from my day. And learning new to me techniques keeps my wee brain active... this year, besides ribbons made with string heddle weaving (a.k.a. inkle) I also learned tablet/card weaving. I love the weight card weaving gives to belts, so I made several to practice my new-to-me skill. I was so jazzed to add to my skill set and items to my inventory.
Some of the lanyards...
This year, I have my own table, so with my sales supply ready, I wanted to create my presentation. So I set up a mock display table in my living room.
I wanted to know that I had the colorful tablecloths ready and to see where to set what of my wares and Seeds of Imagination products. I've heard when selling something, the display is everything. I did well last year, and frankly, covering expenses while chatting with friends is a good incentive to check what I had.
Seeds of Imagination...
Of course, as I created my display, the weather outside was frightful, so my cats were inside heppin. I managed to test out my creative ideas, though, and I have a rough notion of how to "parade my wares."

Then all the stuff went into a couple of totes, and my clothing into my suitcase.
Only thing left is to pack up the car and head south for the weekend...
I'll let you know how it goes.
