Did You Steal a Tablecloth?

A few months ago my husband called me from one of those big box stores (eh, it is what it is, my preference is small local stores, but I don't complain because he does the shopping).

The store had $1.00/yard fabric. We all know that $1.00/yard fabric can be questionable, yet he took the time to call, so off I went to look. After all, one never knows what one will find.

And I was surprised... there were several bolts of 100% summer weight cotton that were pleasing to the eye. So I bought several yards of each with different projects in mind.

I don't buy many clothes, mostly because if it fits in one place, it's tight in another. So I tend to make my clothes to fit. And if I find a pleasing fabric, I generally buy a five-yard length.

As well, when I modify a pattern, and it fits well, I use it.

Anyway, one of these recently purchased lengths, I used this past week (actually only about two and a half yards) ... a pleasant burgundy and beige gingham.

I have all sorts of thread at home already, so I look through my stash before I buy any. I found this purplish thread a surprising match.

I am fond of gingham, though in my youth I didn't wear it... too concerned of what others might think.

"Now," I thought to myself, "even if they think it's a tablecloth, I'm going to wear it."

So, I set up my table in the living room of my tiny house, got a pattern, sewing machine, and other sewing supplies, and made myself a dress.

I truly am amazed, even after fifty years of experience, every time I take a lump of fabric and it (poofa) turns into something. I get so jazzed!

As you know, my husband, Pete, is often my biggest fan. He's so cute... he often thinks I can do anything. Even if he doesn't always understand what I'm doing, he cheers me on.

So after I make something, I usually go find him to show off my latest venture.

So I donned the dress (got the picture) and went downstairs for a show and tell.

First thing he said?

"Did you steal a tablecloth?"

I had a good belly laugh at my own prediction skills and asked where he was taking me to dinner.
