But I Like This Shirt!

Pete and I recently went to a western-themed wedding. The happy couple asked guests to dress in their best western wear.

So we donned our hats and jeans and boots and shirts and away we went. Since the weather threatened rain for this outdoor event, I also wore my duster, just in case.

Photo booth fun at the reception...

As we walked into the corral for the nuptials, I looked down and saw a stain on the front of my shirt. I bemoaned my find to a couple of friends who assured me they could not see it. Apparently, the marks were only visible if the light was right... though I could see it clearly.

We all enjoyed the ceremony (done on horseback) and the reception of BBQ and live music. Through it all, I felt just a wee bit self-conscious and tried to keep the front of my duster covering it.

I could see the offending spots...

When I got home, I looked the shirt over, and indeed had trouble finding the offending spot.

I knew it was there. Pete suggested I throw the shirt in the bag destined for the thrift store. But I like this shirt!

So after a stain treatment and wash (to no avail), I got out some embroidery thread. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I can fix this...

Using a pencil I highlighted the stains (yeah, I found another one... darn that chocolate sauce) and started sewing.

I didn't want just a bit of embroidery on the front of my shirt, so I added random flowers in other places as well. I even added a bit of blue (matching the collar and cuffs) onto the buttons. A flower here, a leaf there, and throw in a few dots for good measure.

After an evening of embroidery, the shirt was ready to wear again.

A smattering of wee flowers did the trick...

As I showed Pete how I "fixed" the problem, he couldn't resist asking...

"Did sewing with blue "fix" your blues?"

Cue: eye roll. Grin
